Last year I drew Ariana Grande in my Rainbow Bubbles of Collective Effervescence portrait style and made a shirt for my nibling (gender neutral term for niece or nephew) Ani for her 16th birthday. She is pictured at the opening of Wicked and was just metres from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, wearing the shirt! It was so exciting! I showed the portrait in my exhibition at Montville in October and November. My friend, Eva (Ani’s mum) is pictured with it here.
I LOVED the movie, Wicked. It has so many layers of meaning and what a profound statement about humanity, good, evil, the dangerous power of a crowd, beauty, love, friendship… It was so rich and dynamic and a pleasure for the senses! I’m so excited by part two Wicked For Good, but devastatingly I’m not well enough to see it at the movies. I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD, but I can enjoy all the promo videos!
I chose to draw this stunning portrait of Ariana looking at Elphaba with tears of gratitude as they sang ‘For Good’, with a radiant photo of Cynthia joyously smiling. I will channel their energy and send out love as Ani, Eva and my friends get to see it at the movies, and I look forward to watching it as soon as I am able.
I treated myself to a Grill’d Wicked burger. Delicious!
