When Olivia Newton-John died on 8 August 2022, Delta Goodrem posted a photo of them together. I cannot describe how moved I was by the photograph – their intense love and friendship, Olivia’s playfulness, Delta’s sincerity, and genuine relief to share in an embrace. The image makes me want to cry with gratitude, connection, and love. Olivia and Delta’s friendship represents so much to me – their passion for singing and music, their shared life experiences with fame and ultimately their struggles with serious health conditions, and advocating for support. When I look at this photo I feel collective effervescence like I am a part of the joyous hug. I feel their love with me through everything I’m going through with my own health challenges. I can hear their music fill my soul and I feel fulfilled with love.
