Brooke Prentis and Aunty Jean Phillips – May 2026

My dear friend and emerging Aboriginal leader, Brooke Prentis, has just released an AWEsome TED talk on the question ‘what if awe could help heal humanity?

In it, she shares her awe while being at Uluru the morning after the climb closed, feeling she, and the nation, could finally breathe again. She wonders ‘what would happen if we looked upon each other with awe’ – could it help us all heal from the world’s issues of disconnection, fear, division and exhaustion?

I’m not able to get out in nature much, but I agree with Brooke that ‘there is uniqueness in the design of every person.’ In the words of author & psychologist Dacher Keltner in his book ‘Awe,’ I feel awe every day in the ‘moral beauty’ and ‘collective effervescence’ of humanity. I’m in awe of Brooke and her efforts to help heal the world. I was also most impressed with her speaking manner and the fact she memorised all 16 minutes of it! Wow!

Brooke loved my Rainbow Bubbles of Collective Effervescence ByShi Art Display at Montville Reflection Gallery when she visited on 25th Nov 2025. She asked me to draw our friend and national treasure, Aboriginal elder Aunty Jean Phillips. So I drew them both to thank them for their invaluable work in the community, sharing their love and passion for their fellow First Nations peoples, and working with the Uniting Church in Australia, where we met. Brooke said my portraits bring her awe 🙏✨🥰

With love and awe – and each of us reaching out and sharing our gifts like Brooke, Aunty Jean and I have – I feel hope that we can, indeed, heal together.
