Alastair Lynch – July 2026

In 1997 I fundraised with legendary AFL footballer Alastair Lynch and our ME/CFS specialist doctor Dr John L Whiting. I drew a portrait of us in blue, symbolising ME/CFS, and that artwork was featured in my See ME Expo, my Rainbow Bubbles of Collective Effervescence exhibition and my top 30 favourite portraits.

29 years later, on Monday I presented my See ME Expo book to Alastair at my home and we posed in front of the same collage ‘Ob La Di Ob La Da (Life Goes On).’ It was magical –  a full circle moment I have dreamed of for many years. I’m in awe of our connection.

Alastair loves my art and was intrigued to see how it has progressed over the years!  After a few days of wholehearted rest, I was able to draw the updated portrait of us in my Rainbow Bubbles of Collective Effervescence portrait style. Drawing is now meditative and therapeutic. Unfortunately, I have since crashed in pain and PEM (Post Exertional Malaise). Even with physiotherapy to help me recover, the pain from exertion has been excruciating. Even excitement triggers exhaustion. I just hold onto the joy and love in the moment and am grateful for our connection.  It sustains me. Hopefully this pain will pass asap.
